Give your natural teeth a beautiful, shining, natural whiteness
What is whitening?
Whitening is a method of whitening teeth chemically without grinding them down. By applying a chemical to the surface of the teeth, we aim to restore the natural whiteness of the teeth and restore a beautiful, transparent color.
There are two types of whitening: office whitening and home whitening.
◆Introducing Ultradent office whitening
Office whitening is done at a dental clinic, and because it is done by a professional, it is possible to use a more effective bleaching agent, resulting in a very transparent white finish. The whitening effect is also long-lasting, so it is a recommended whitening method for those who want to achieve more beautiful white teeth in a short period of time.
Office whitening is recommended for those who want to whiten their teeth in a short period of time. If you want a clearer white color, we recommend repeating office whitening multiple times and maintaining the whiteness with home whitening.
For our office whitening, we use a whitening light (bleaching light) that has a high light output power and can irradiate light effectively to improve the whitening effect.
Although tooth sensitivity may occasionally occur after whitening, our whitening treatment has a high bleaching effect, but we choose whitening agents that are as gentle as possible.
Our clinic uses the Ultradent system, which is based in the United States. This system is widely used worldwide and has a high whitening effect, using a chemical that contains 35% hydrogen peroxide.
For those who have had whitening treatment before and are worried about post-surgery sensitivity, we also offer a mouthpiece-type medication that can be used before whitening to reduce sensitivity.
You will be asked to wear a mouthpiece containing a medicine to prevent tooth hypersensitivity 30 minutes to an hour before whitening. If you then whiten your teeth, you can minimize tooth hypersensitivity.
◆What is home whitening?
Home whitening is a method of whitening at home, either using trays that contain pre-made whitening gel or using custom trays that are fitted to your own teeth.
It is possible to restore natural whiteness with home whitening alone, but by combining it with office whitening, you can expect even greater whitening effects.
If you want to achieve the desired whitening tone using only home whitening, you will need to whiten your teeth every day for at least 10 days.
When special custom trays are used, an impression is taken and a mouthpiece made specifically for whitening.
You will apply the whitening agent to the inside of the mouthpiece yourself and then wear the mouthpiece.
◆ Walking bleach (whitening of non-vital teeth)
Walking bleach is a method of whitening non-vital teeth that is performed on teeth that have already undergone root canal treatment due to major cavities or trauma (injury) and have lost their nerves.
Bacterial infection causes blood components to enter the dentin tubules, causing discoloration of the dentin. Discoloration may occur after root canal treatment, and may be more noticeable in appearance compared to other teeth.
Although it is possible to restore the aesthetic appearance by covering the teeth with ceramic crowns, if many natural teeth remain, a large amount of the teeth must be removed. If you want to restore discoloration while keeping your natural teeth, walking bleach is recommended.
Depending on the degree of discoloration, there may be a limit to how much whitening we can achieve, in which case we will need to place a ceramic crown over it.
Walking bleach can achieve whitening effects in just one session, but depending on the degree of discoloration and how close you want to your teeth to the color you want, you may need to repeat the whitening process multiple times.
◆ Frequently asked questions about whitening
○How long does the effect of one whitening session last?
The effect of office whitening is said to last for about three months, but the effect also varies depending on the home care situation and oral environment. Although it is possible for the results to revert after whitening, neglecting self-care can cause stains and dirt to form on the surface of the teeth early, which can make the teeth appear less shiny even while the whitening effect is still in full effect. To enhance the effect, we recommend continuing home whitening in addition to self-care.
Are there any precautions I should take when undergoing treatment?
If you have significant cavities or gum problems, you should have the appropriate treatment completed before whitening.
◯Are there people or teeth that cannot be whitened?
You cannot receive whitening if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or undergoing radiation therapy. Teeth with caps or fillings cannot be whitened, so treatment is not possible.
